Machinable boron-doped diamond as a practical heating element in multi-anvil apparatuses

چکیده
Being refractory and X-ray transparent, a boron-doped diamond (BDD) heater is considered an ideal heating element in multi-anvil apparatus under diamond-stable pressures. However, the extremely high hardness of makes it difficult to manufacture BDD tube, which, turn, hinders wide application heaters apparatuses. Here, I sintered machinable (MBDD) from mixture powder pitch (CnH2n+2) by its annealing Ar at 1273 K for 5 h. The was bound small amount graphite (<10 wt. %) during sintering process. Tubes (such as 1.2/0.7/4.0 mm outer/inner diameter/length) can be manufactured MBDD block using lathe or computer numerical control machine. Due low content MBDD, graphite–diamond conversion has effect on performance. shows comparable performance ultrahigh temperature generation with high-pressure synthesized generating higher than 3300 melted Al2O3 pressure 15 GPa. With good excellent machinability, practical achievement stable over enables various measurements physicochemical properties melts Earth’s mantle conditions.

Superconductivity in boron-doped diamond.
Superconductivity of boron-doped diamond, reported recently at T(c)=4 K, is investigated exploiting its electronic and vibrational analogies to MgB2. The deformation potential of the hole states arising from the C-C bond-stretch mode is 60% larger than the corresponding quantity in MgB2 that drives its high T(c), leading to very large electron-phonon matrix elements. The calculated coupling str...

Recent advances in high-pressure diamond anvil cell experiments include high-energy synchrotron x-ray techniques as well as new cell designs and gasketing procedures. The success of high-pressure experiments usually depends on a well-prepared sample, in which the gasket plays an important role. Various gasket materials such as diamond, beryllium, rhenium, and stainless steel have been used. Her...

Nanostructuring boron-doped diamond (BDD) films increases their sensitivity and performance when used as electrodes in electrochemical environments. We have developed a method to produce such nanostructured, porous electrodes by depositing BDD thin film onto a densely packed "forest" of vertically aligned multiwalled carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The CNTs had previously been exposed to a suspension ...
